TomTom has launched three new devices. Part of the latest Start range, these innovations boast TomTomís intuitive address search, routing and guidance. The Start devices offer affordability while still delivering lifetime map updates. Available on four, five or six-inch display screens, the new Start series includes a feature to ensure drivers are aware of their average speed, following a 95 per cent rise in average speed cameras on roads in the UK. The new range also comes with an integrated mount that is reversible, meaning drivers can easily switch between windscreen and dashboard mounting and can be purchased in Halfords, Argos and Amazon, as well as on the TomTom website.
More and more of our devices require charging frequently to get the best out of them, and Belkin already has a good reputation for building reliable, affordable and good quality in-car accessories. The newest product to market is a single USB 12-volt port adaptor in stylish metallic colours. The compact adaptor can charge a range of USB-based devices, including smartphones, tablets and cameras. Belkin claims the Mixit delivers up to 40 per cent faster charge than ordinary five-watt chargers. Available in a range of metallic colours of rose gold, silver, gold and metallic white, as well as standard grey and black, itís stylish and will keep drivers on the go, in and out of the vehicle.
The turbochargers in our diesel engines not only offer higher performance, but also keep our motors more efficient. No one enjoys getting expensive repair bills, but turbos are easily clogged by hot and dirty gasses pushed through the vanes of this technology. Launched at this yearís Automechanika show in Birmingham, Wynnís new Turbo Cleaner claims to remove deposit build up in the turbo inlet and turbines, cleaning and helping with sticking vanes, restoring lost power, performance and fuel economy. This specially formulated cleaner has a blend of chemicals to clean away dirty deposits without the costly need to dismantle components. And itís incredibly simple to use. Just use one bottle to 40 litres of fuel when you next fill up.
These days LED, which stands for Light-Emitting Diode, uses electronics to produce more light than standard bulbs, but using considerably less power. Ring Automotive has developed a new range of LED bulbs ñ standard, premium and performance. Durable and resistant to vibrations, these LED headlights feature innovative 3D technology and are shaped like a standard bulb to give even light distribution. Whatís more, CANbus technology ñ a safety feature ñ means that your vehicle can alert you when you need a replacement. There are five- and six-year guarantees respectively with the premium and performance bulbs, too. Though LEDs cannot be retrofitted to cars without professional beam pattern realignment, for those drivers whose motors already have LEDs fitted, these are a great value-for-money replacement option.
Martin Gurdon has been a contributor to Diesel Car in the past, and his new book encapsulates the reader, delivering stories that every person can relate to. From his home in Kent and the epic car journeys to visit family, there is a warmth brought by Gurdonís talent to capitalise on the very ordinary and use it to enhance the extraordinary is enviable. Gurdon writes with familiarity, which draws the reader in and so even for those who arenít massive car fans, there is a thoroughly enjoyable tale to be told. Humourous and well-paced, Gurdonís life has thus far been an ensemble, where the cars are just as important characters as anyone (and everything) else in his life.

From the hub, it enables smartphone connectivity, accesses DAB tuning and brings new technology to the screen display. The iGo Navigation features sophisticated map routing and dynamic light display, meaning the backlight adjusts with the daylight. Some model specifications also have a touchpad accessory to improve the screen functionality and help you drive more safely. Additional inputs, such as Bluetooth, Digital Video Broadcasting, a reversing camera and SD card functionality gives the user more flexibility, too.
