Diesel Car – Issue 390 – July 2019

Our Best of British special issue celebrates what is great about our fine country, including our best driving roads, the top British people in power at car companies around the world and we were at Ford’s Dagenham factory to celebrate its 90th birthday. This month’s reader’s drives is a rather rare Rover 825Di and our used car buyer’s guide is all about the Land Rover Discovery Sport. In fact, our cover shows off the new Discovery Sport, which Land Rover recently unveiled in the woods at the historic Luton Hoo estate. The modest makeover masks a comprehensive reworking under the skin.

Description

Our Best of British special issue celebrates what is great about our fine country, including our best driving roads, the top British people in power at car companies around the world and we were at Ford’s Dagenham factory to celebrate its 90th birthday. This month’s reader’s drives is a rather rare Rover 825Di and our used car buyer’s guide is all about the Land Rover Discovery Sport. In fact, our cover shows off the new Discovery Sport, which Land Rover recently unveiled in the woods at the historic Luton Hoo estate. The modest makeover masks a comprehensive reworking under the skin.

We’ve also got news of the all-new BMW 1 Series which controversially is shifting drive from the back wheels to the front. There’s also pictures and the latest facts and figures on the facelifted Skoda Superb and the updated Audi A4 and new S4 TDI, and we reveal Mazda’s plans for a new straight-six diesel engine for use in its SUVs and large cars. In the EcoCar section, there’s the first pictures of the Vauxhall Corsa in electric guise, the Skoda Citigo-e, and updated Hyundai Ioniq Electric, as well as the details of the Audi Q5 plug-in hybrid, Vauxhall Grandland X Hybrid, MG ZS EV and Volkswagen ID.3.

The new BMW X5 and 8 Series Coupé have come under the microscope this month with our testers, and we also drive the latest Mazda3 and facelifted Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class. SEAT’s Tarraco takes on one of its seven-seat SUV adversaries, the Peugeot 5008 – which one comes out best? Audi’s recently updated A4 Black Edition is tested in Avant quattro guise, we’ve been driving the short wheelbase Jeep Wrangler and Skoda’s Octavia Estate is put through its paces in new SportLine trim. Over in EcoCar, we’ve also been driving the diminutive SEAT Mii FR-Line. The DieselCar fleet also welcomes a trio of new models, including the Ford Focus Estate, Land Rover Discovery Sport and Volvo V60 R-Design.

If you’ve haven’t seen the facelifted Diesel Car & Eco Car, then get yourself a copy, as we’ve freshened the design and made it easier to read. There’s brand new items being added in every issue, and this month there’s the launch of Doctor Diesel’s heroes or zeroes – cars that the legendary Doc has spotted on his travels this month.
