We couldn’t produce an off-road special issue without including a Land Rover, and the Discovery Sport is the companyís second-best seller, marginally behind the popular Range Rover Evoque. Launched to much acclaim in 2014, itís the first time that weíve been able to test the high power 177bhp version of the Ingenium diesel engine in the Discovery Sport. Here we get behind the wheel of the top-of-the-range edition, which is a bit of a mouthful when given its full model title, but here weíll simply call it the Discovery Sport HSE Dynamic Luxury.

Looks great. Well-ordered, spacious cabin. Huge boot. New touchscreen a leap forward. Fantastic off-road. Seven-seat versatility.
Stop-start is too eager to switch off the engine. Never feels fast. Automatic gearbox slow to respond.
