No weíre not talking about the loud orange paintwork, we are of course referring to the fact that this Peugeot is the UKís most efficient diesel car currently on sale. It boasts CO2 emissions of just 79g/km, with a combined fuel economy figure of an astonishing 94.2mpg. And far from this being a stripped out, bottom-of-the-range eco special, this 208 is offered in a choice of trim levels ñ Active and Allure ñ and here we test it in the plusher specification of the two versions.

Lowest CO2 of any diesel car. Good efficiency. Spacious cabin. Small steering wheel delivers great agility. Perfectly positioned touchscreen. Well-equipped. Good looking.
Infotainment software can be ponderous. Driving position may not suit all drivers. Too much wind noise. Not enough soft-touch materials.
