Not content with revealing production versions of the DS3 and its all-new C3, Citroën also unveiled a modern day concept inspired by its legendary 2CV to coincide with the celebrations of its 90th anniversary
Named REVOLTe, the concept car features a rechargeable hybrid system, mating to a small capacity engine with an electric motor and battery recharge system. The exterior is a modern take on its 2CV predecessor, with a rich and vibrant twist. The cabin is luxurious, with swathes of leather and aluminium, and is packed with technology. From all angles, the design cues from the 2CV, or deux chevaux as it’s affectionately known, are plain to see.
Wrapped up in a package that is compact, and around the same size as the current Citroën C2, the REVOLTe features rear-hinged doors, giving wide open access to the cabin. The three seat design allows the driver to take centre stage up front, with room for two passengers behind. There’s also the possibility to fit a rear facing child seat where the front passenger seat would normally be, or room for one of the rear passengers to spread their legs, in true limousine style. Efficient use of space is employed, with the battery pack housed under the rear seats, meaning more space for luggage and shopping.
Currently, it’s just a concept, with no plans for production, but it’s no secret that Citroën would like to put a modern take on the 2CV on sale one day, having flirted with the silhouette with the C3 Pluriel. It’s definitely a case of watch this space…
