Small finalist: FORD B-MAX
With the B-MAX, Ford has reinvented small MPV motoring and given it a brilliantly family-friendly face.
Sliding doors are nothing new, but these rear ones are more effective than most at opening up the car sides for remarkable ease of access, especially considering the car’s relatively diminutive size.
We absolutely love the way that with no fixed B-pillar, the B-MAX can turn into your own personal gazebo on a summer outing.
Good to drive and as comfortably practical as a wheelie suitcase, the B-MAX is friendly and fun, clever and capable, with zippy performance and really good economy.
Commended: Citroën C3 Picasso
Medium finalist: FORD C-MAX
Ford’s design engineers are master craftsmen when it comes to devising good-to-drive, friendly-to-live-with people-carriers.
It is no surprise that two of them are section finalists here in the Best MPV category.
The C-MAX shines out as the one we most enjoy driving from among the vast choice of medium size MPVs.
Crafting enough space for five, or even seven in a car with this one’s external dimensions is no easy job, but Ford has done it brilliantly.
This is a spectator sport model, with cosy but comfortable room for passengers to observe how much the one behind the wheel relishes the driving experience.
Commended: Vauxhall Zafira Tourer
Large finalist: SEAT ALHAMBRA
Car, van or team bus, the Alhambra is any of these vehicles, and all three.
Big sliding side doors make it a cinch to load, and the one-handed Easyfold seat system lets you adapt the interior depending on how many passengers and how much luggage you need to carry.
Friendly and practical, this is a car that perfectly facilitates all the diverse activities involved in family life.
This cheery Spanish MPV can morph from two-seater van to seven-seater bus.
Tall enough for a view over hedges, it doesn’t roll on the bends like some and is as good to drive as it is practical.
Commended: Ford S-MAX
