Test Track – Walt Disney World – Orlando, USA – Epcot Center
Opened shortly before the millennium and refurbished last year, Test Track sees visitors pass through a Chevrolet design studio, allowing them a glimpse at a pair of concept cars. From their, they get to design their own car, before getting to try it out on track. The designed car is tested for efficiency, aerodynamics, responsiveness and accleration. If only motor engineering was really that simple!
Moteurs… Action! – Disneyland Paris, France – Walt Disney Studios
Moteurs…Action! gives visitors the chance to experience all the thrills and spills of a Hollywood car chase. Over forty vehicles are involved and it proved so succesful at Disnelyland Paris that the ride was replicated in the states at Walt Disney Studios and christened Lights, Motors, Action. The set remains French-themed though Cars-star Lightening McQueen has been known to put in an appearance.
Cars Land – Disney California Adventure, USA
Cars Land is less of a ride and more of a mini theme park. Home to three rides, it takes its inspiration from the two Pixar Cars films. It’s also home to a replica of Radiator Springs, the home of the Cars from the film. While the rides are fairly simple, the standout is attraction is Flo’s V8 Cafe, indentical to the way it appeared on screen.
Rita – Alton Towers, UK
Opened in 2005 as Rita: The Queen of Speed, the ride puts you in the seat of drag racer and launches you from 0-60mph in a little over two seconds. Following a Royal visit, Rita briefly became Camilla: The Queen of Speed. Infact, Rita proved so popular that a copy of the Alton Towers ride was built at the Germany theme park Heide Park. This version, Desert Race, is actually slightly faster than the UK ride, launching riders to 68mph in 2.8 seconds.
Back To The Future – Universal Studios Japan
Climb aboard the famous stainless steel DeLorean and join Doctor Emmet Brown for a journey through time. The ride features the Doc’s latest invention, a new eight-seater DeLorean time machine. The ride takes you all the way back to the days of the dinosaur, with a Tyrannosaurus Rex swallowing the DeLorean at one point. Thankfully the dinosaur spits the DeLorean out soon enough but as Marty McFly might say, ‘Woah, Doc – that is heavy…’
