Beauty, it is said, is in the eye of the beholder. Well some cars are so ugly they’ll make you wanna poke yourself in the eye, just to avoid beholding it! So, without further ado, here are Diesel Car’s top five aesthetically challenged diesels!
Pity the poor ol’ Multilpa. A clever MPV with seating for three up-front has plenty going for it, on the inside. Outside, it’s one of the oddest cars to have come out of Fiat, with big slab sides and that weird duckbill front end. The Multipa looks like it’s come straight from the drawings of a 4 year old and onto the street. Truly a face only a mother could love.
BMW 5 Series GT
Oh dear, what were they thinking? Normally BMW can be relied upon to create cars that are either subtle and understated or pack stacks of driver appeal in the case of the purposeful and powerful ‘M’ series. When it came to the 5GT style left the building. It’s hard to imagine anyone buying the 5GT for its looks. Still at least its got a promising career in Hollywood, should Disney ever make a Cars/Hunchback of Notre Dame crossover…
After hits like the Octavia and Fabia it was only a matter of time before Skoda had a miss. And that miss arrived in 2006 with the Roomster . An odd looking thing, the Roomster looks like three different cars hastily thrown together. When compared to the other cars in Skoda’s range it stands out event more as the odd member of the family. Our advice? Leave the odd one out and go for the rugged, more handsome brother – go for a Yeti.
There are many words that can be used to describe the SsangYong Rodius, most of which I can’t write here. Let’s just say it’s, erm, ‘unusual’. With a huge amount of room inside it’s ideal for big families, with an awful lot of space for luggage. It’s just a pity that you’ll have to look at it every time you want to get into it.
Fiat 500L MPW
The three-door hatchback Fiat 500 is a bit like Elvis in 1958. Cool, fun and popular with the ladies. The 500L MPW is like Elvis in 1977. Big, bloated and in danger of losing its appeal. The baby Fiat quickly became the darling of the fashion-conscious set, however with its awkward bulky looks it’s unlikely the new MPW will become the darling of the boutique crowd any time soon.
