Diesel Car magazine is proud to announce the winners of its annual car of the year awards 2011, with Citroën’s DS3 grabbing the premier spot in this year’s awards. Peugeot’s innovative new 3008 HYbrid4 – the first diesel hybrid – is awarded pole position for Best Eco Car 2011.

Over 300 new cars have been put through their paces by Diesel Car’s well respected, expert testers, resulting in winners in ten categories. Once again, the Car of the Year awards are sponsored by Evolution Chips, one of the leaders in the diesel engine tuning industry.

Announcing this year’s winners, Ian Robertson, Editor of Diesel Car Magazine said “There has been a lot of new talent arriving on the motoring scene in the past twelve months, despite the difficult market conditions.” He went on to say “I’m so pleased to be able to announce that the Citroën DS3 is Diesel Car’s Car of the Year 2011. Not only is it extremely talented on the tarmac, it looks fantastic, suits most pockets and is nicely kitted out. It’s the perfect car to make you feel good about yourself.”

Ford’s newly launched Focus grabs the top spot for medium cars, while the Mondeo takes the honours for best large car. Kia has cause to pop open the champagne corks, as its new crossover challenger, the Sportage, grabs the Best Crossover gong. Another new entrant into the marketplace in 2010 is the SEAT Alhambra which beats all the other contenders to the Best MPV spot.

Some of this year’s class winners are no strangers to the podium, with Peugeot’s RCZ also winning best sports car last year. Land Rover’s Discovery 4 also takes the honour of best 4×4 for the second time running, while Skoda’s Superb Estate grabbed best estate car for the second year. None of them can beat the Jaguar XF though, which wins best executive car for the fourth year in succession.

The Awards issue of Diesel Car magazine goes on sale online and in all good newsagents on Thursday 12th May.
