In a year that saw the end of the scrappage scheme, Hyundai has maintained its remarkable sales momentum – eclipsing 2009’s sales figures with five weeks of the year still remaining. To date, Hyundai sales for 2010 stand at 57,391, with last year’s record being 56,927. Hyundai is predicting total UK vehicle sales of 62,000 vehicles for 2010 – a figure that gives a year on year increase of almost 9 per cent. Equally impressive is the fact that this growth in sales has been driven by non scrappage scheme customers. To date, non scrappage sales amount to 44,741, while scrappage scheme sales account for just 12,650 units.
Hyundai’s best seller continues to be the i10 city car, clocking up a total of 22,208, followed by the i30 with 14,302 and the i20 with 12,113.
Tony Whitehorn, Hyundai’s managing director, said: “Whilst 2009 was a great year for Hyundai in the UK, 2010 is even better. Scrappage gave the franchise a boost and catapulted it into people’s awareness. 2010 proves that we are here to stay. Considering that last year Hyundai enjoyed nine months of scrappage and this year only three months, this is an outstanding result.”
Whitehorn added: “Scrappage introduced our cars to a number of customers who previously had not considered them, and they were surprised by the style, quality and equipment levels. The customers have been our best advocates.
