As well as a remarkable array of veteran cars – all built before 1905 and ready for the famous London to Brighton Veteran Car Run the following day – the Regent Street extravaganza will include current and future models from some of the world’s leading manufacturers.
BMW, for example, will be displaying the futuristic i3 electric vehicle alongside the latest 4-Series and MINI offerings. Renault, too, will be plugging the zero emission benefits of pure electric vehicles with its ZOE and Twizy models. They will also be showcasing the all-new Clio and Captur.
With the spread of charging posts throughout the city and the bonus of congestion charge free motoring thanks to the lack of any exhaust emissions, London is fast becoming Europe’s EV capital.
Up to 100 veterans, some powered by steam, will be competing for top honours in the EFG International Concours d’Elegance, while Aston Martin and Porsche will also be looking back. Aston Martin will celebrate its centenary with a display of models from its past while Porsche turns the spotlight on the venerable 911 sports car, celebrating its 50th birthday this year.
All this activity underlines how, in four short years, the Regent Street Motor Show has become a keenly anticipated fixture on the motoring calendar which attracts more than 250,000 visitors on the day.
This year Regent Street will be closed to traffic in its entirety, from Piccadilly Circus to Oxford Circus, with manufacturer displays on the famous Wren Crescent.
Mark Waller, Senior Communications Manager at Renault UK commented: “We have seen the Regent Street Motor Show develop in recent years and to see it extend to Oxford Circus is fantastic news. We like the relaxed atmosphere of the event along with the large number of visitors it attracts, many of whom don’t attend other motoring events and look forward to showing them our latest models.”
Sadie Taylor from BMW Park Lane and responsible for the BMW and MINI displays, said: “The Regent Street Motor Show will be the first opportunity for many to see the new BMW i3 and to learn how easy it is to go electric in London.
“We will also be showcasing the BMW 4 Series Coupé along with MINI Park Lane’s head-turning MINIs promising to make your jaw drop.”
