Power boost for SsangYong diesels

SsangYong is bringing in a power upgrade for several of its cars timed to meet the arrival of the new 16 registration in March. The SsangYong Korando SUV crossover, Rexton 4×4 and Turismo MPV have all received a significant power boost, together with improved economy, thanks to a new 2.2 litre Euro 6 diesel engine.

The newly developed e-XDi220 diesel engine turns out 176 BHP and 295 lb ft of torque – up by 19.4 and 11 per cent respectively over the previous Euro 5 2.0-litre diesel  engine fitted to the Korando. Maximum torque is delivered from a low of 1,400rpm and maintained through a wide range up to 2,800rpm.

CO2 emissions have been reduced to 139g/km, down from 147g/km on the previous two-wheel drive, manual transmission Korando, while fuel economy is now up to 53.3mpg (combined cycle) for the 2-wheel drive manual compared with 47.1mpg on the model it replaces.

“This is a significant advance for the range,” says Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK. “The power upgrade brings greater refinement, while the cars continue to deliver unrivaled levels of equipment and value, and no other brand offers such a comprehensive warranty for complete peace of mind.

“Sales of these models are already well up compared with last year,” adds Mr Williams “which clearly demonstrates that even more people are recognising the amazing value SsangYong offers. With the power upgrade and new automatic gearboxes for 2016, these cars deliver even greater levels of refinement and value.”

Among other changes, the 2016 Korando gets a new six-speed Aisin automatic transmission and is freshened up internally and externally with details such as clear glass direction indicators and a new piano black radiator grille. The range now starts at £15,995 Korando 2.2 SE.

The 2016 Rexton and Turismo are now being offered with a new seven-speed Mercedes-Benz automatic transmission as an alternative to the standard six-speed manual, and prices now start at  £22,995 for the Rexton and £18,995 for the Turismo.

SssangYong has also announced an expanded PCP programme on selected Korando diesel models, ahead of the arrival of the new 16 registration on 1st March.
