Based on the European-only Fluence saloon, the Turkish-built Z.E. was available to UK customers from 2011 but it sold poorly, with just over 3,500 examples finding homes worldwide since 2010.
A Renault spokes-person confirmed the news to Diesel Car, saying “Production has ended. Only a few cars remain unsold in the UK.”
The Fluence sold in penny numbers here in Britain, with 67 sold in 2012 and just eight in 2013. Small saloons like the Fluence have always had a tough time in the UK market and plug-in buyers have favoured the likes of Nissan’s Leaf over the Renault.
The collapse of Renault’s battery partner, Project Better Place, who were responsible for the firm’s battery swap programme, left the Fluence and its batteries, isolated in the market.
