SsangYong shows off camper version of the Turismo

dsc_0171SsangYong is showing off its new Turismo Camper at the Motorhome & Caravan Show, which runs until 16 October at the NEC, Birmingham.

Based on a standard SsangYong Turismo MPV, the new Tourist camper is over 5 metres long and has a 3 metre wheelbase.  Larger than a standard sized people carrier, the Turismo is powered by a 2.2 litre Euro 6 diesel engine, and is available with the choice of a 6-speed manual transmission or new Mercedes-Benz 7-speed automatic, and with the option of two-wheel drive or 4×4.

Maximum power is 176 bhp and torque of 295 lb ft which is delivered from a low of 1,400rpm and maintained through a wide range up to 2,800rpm for smooth, progressive driving from the start.

The design and manufacturing work to create the Turismo Tourist Camper has been completed in the UK by Wellhouse Leisure of Huddersfield, a leading UK campervan manufacturer.

dsc_0163The campervan comprises a colour-matched elevating roof, driver and passenger swivel and folding seats to create twin beds with in-fill cushions and memory foam toppers, a rear tailgate awning, sliding glass top hob for indoor or outdoor use, small sink, gas bottle, 12v charging system, 25ltr compressor fridge, fresh and waste water containers, portable toilet, and all woodwork made from light weight ply.

Prices for the Turismo Tourist start at £29,995, and options include Eberspacher heating, mains hook-up and a solar panel.

“Turismo is one of the largest cars on the market, and in standard form offers seating for seven adult passengers and their luggage, and therefore ideal for conversion into a two-person campervan,” says Paul Williams, CEO of SsangYong Motor UK.  “Wellhouse Leisure has done an excellent job in creating such a great vehicle for the booming leisure market.”
