Toyota adds small new SUV to its European line-up

Toyota has announced plans to introduce a brand new model to its European line-up, a small SUV based on a variant of the new GA-B platform. The name of the new model, volume plans and the timing of its introduction will be announced at a future date. The news was revealed to media attending a Toyota showcase event in Amsterdam, where a stylised silhouette of the future car was shown.

The company says that the flexibility of the new Toyota GA-B platform – also used for the new Yaris range – allows it to support vehicles of different widths, heights and wheelbase lengths.

“This model will add to the success of Yaris in Europe and together we expect these vehicles will account for around 30 per cent of the Toyota sales volume in the region by 2025,” said Matthew Harrison, Toyota Motor Europe Executive Vice President. “You won’t have to wait long to see a final design, and you will see that this is not just a Yaris with body cladding and raised suspension, but an entirely new and distinctive B-SUV model with a compact, dynamic design and a personality of its own.”

The future model will be built at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) in Onnaing, near Valenciennes in France, alongside the Toyota Yaris.
