The fortwo and forfour has been recalled by smart under reference R/2020/195 (SRS2001), as the software for the advanced emergency braking system may not meet the correct specification.

2,296 examples of the fortwo and forfour are being recalled as at 11th September 2020, with build dates from 9th May 2018 to 5th September 2019 and with VIN numbers ranging from WME4530422Y159205 to WME4534912K415485 affected. To solve the issue, the main dealer will update the software for the advanced emergency braking system on the affected vehicles.

Owners will receive a letter and will be invited to visit their local dealer for the resolution to be applied to the vehicle.
